Patriotic Quote Art

9:47:00 PM

I know I am super late on posting this craft for Independence Day. I am going to blame the U.S Post Office.

Okay, not really. But I was waiting on a piece of mail before I got this little craft started. You see, last week Ginger over at Gingersnap Crafts posted this cute little quote block:

And then she said that she had used her Silhouette to create another copy of the exact same Ben Franklin quote, and she’d give it to whoever asked for it first. And since I thought it was awesome, and since I don’t actually own such an awesome tool as a Silhouette (despite what the TV shows show, architects do not make much money!), I jumped on that offer—and I was the first one to ask. So I checked my mailbox with great anticipation every day until I received a cute little envelope with my Ben Franklin quote inside.

So here is my version of a patriotic art piece using this quote:
Supplies:

Quote supplied by Gingersnap Crafts
Free Valspar Paint sample—we were looking at paint for Lil Bit’s room, and a salesperson walked up and said if I filled out a 6 question survey he’d give me a coupon for a paint sample—I jumped on that freebie, too!
8X10 canvas that I had on hand
Origami Paper (left over from the Origami Butterfly Artwork project, also for Lil Bit’s room
Silver wired ribbon (leftovers from a long-ago project)
Craft glue

Since I had everything on hand (leftovers and freebies!), this project was FREE! Perfect for a piece of artwork celebrating the Land of the Free, right?
Anyway, I painted my canvas—it took 2 coats to cover it.

While I was waiting for it to dry, I folded some little stars with the origami paper using this easy origami diagram found here.

I took some of the ribbon and made a cute little bow. Then I defended my craft from little fingers.

I arranged my quote and the stars the way I wanted it.

Then I stuck on the quote and then glued on the stars with craft glue.
I applied the ribbon the way I wanted, and then I used some more to create a hanger.

I hung up my artwork over this awesome mirror I’ve had forever. Perfect—and just in time for Independence Day!

Thanks so much, Ginger for the vinyl!

  3. Rachel, your patience was worth it! Patriotism is welcome no matter the day! Love your defense of the little hands. Too funny, and the placement of the quote over the mirror made it all the more spectacular!
