No-Sew Denim Flower Barrette: Upcycled Blue Jeans

5:00:00 AM

This is a cute little hairbow I made for my oldest, but first the reason I made it....

Do you know what horror feels like?

It feels like going down a slide with twin toddlers in your lap.

What?

Yup, I’m serious.

Horror feels like going down a slide with twin toddlers in your lap…when you hear…RRRRIIIPPP. And the slide is in a public park…and you walked several blocks to get there.

And no, the holidays weren’t that rough on my waistline. There was a screw at the top of the slide…and my favorite jeans couldn’t handle the extra momentum given by the toddlers. Promise. Thank goodness my husband could lend me a jacket to cover my…assets…as we walked home.

The jeans were unsalvageable. But I couldn’t bear to toss them.

Then I saw this beautiful denim flower necklace that Tea Rose Home shared...and I couldn't wait to make some denim flowers--but I made a denim flower (and I didn't sew a bit). This is super simple and a great use for some old jeans!

This is what you need:
Denim Fabric (no holey jeans? Hit up Goodwill!)
Something to trace to make a circle (I used a jar band)
Pencil
Scissors
An Alligator Clip
Glue Gun
Buttons or other accents

Trace 5 circles per flower. One circle will be your base.

Pinch a circle so it ends up being a quarter circle, like this:

Then use that hot glue gun to stick it to the base circle. Do each of the four "petals" this way.

Take whatever you are using for the accent and glue it to the center (we used buttons!)

Then take the alligator clip and glue it to the back of the flower.

Then take a little fashion shoot with one of your favorite models!

This denim flower clip is super cute, a little rustic, and took about 20 minutes to make!!

  13. That is so adorable! I always repurpose my son's blue jeans into skirts for my daughters but I throw away so much of the blue jeans. I'll have to remember to save it to make hair bows in the future.
