Embroidered Wood Wreath - in Plaid!

Back before Christmas, I was prowling the target clearance aisle and stumbled across a cool mod wood wreath base....on clearance!! Of course, I had to snag it and then make my own embroidered version of a plaid wreath - perfect for winter door decor!! It's really all about getting a breath of fresh air - a simpler piece of decor!
Don't you love target clearance! I was super excited to find this! I loved how mod this wreath was just by itself.
I debated about painting or leaving the wood raw, but I settled on gel stain in brazilian rose wood that I had on hand.
The embroidery was really easy to do, but it looked a little crazy while I was working on it. My husband couldn't see the plaid until I was done. I used 3 colors - gray, cream, and dark blue.
I did back stitch diagonally in series of 3 rows. White-blue-white. Skip a row of holes. Blue-gray-blue. Skip a row. Repeat. Then do the same series of stripes in the other direction (90 degrees rotated).
And that is it! A clearance deal with a mod plaid twist. Perfect for a simple winter decoration.
