Starry Pumpkin

Are you still looking for simple Halloween decor? Try this star decorated pumpkin in your home-you can even have the kids help out!
Have you checked out the dollar store recently for seasonal craft supplies? I have always found their stuff just a little bit too bright, and not realistic looking.
Take this pumpkin, for example. It's just a little too bright. But with the trend to paint pumpkins, I realized that a solid coat of paint would do wonders for a pretty pumpkin, and then I could dress it up any way I wanted with my Silhouette Portrait.
I used multi-surface craft paint and painted a couple of coats of black paint.
While the paint was drying, I went through my library looking for something that might look like Halloween without being too scary. We like Halloween at my house, but we don't do scary. I'm just not a big fan of scary, and with little kids in the house, it just seems like it is counterproductive.
Anyway, I came across these stars that were a free download several months back.
All I needed to do was ungroup the stars, release compound paths, and delete the parts I didn't want. I then copied and pasted and then cut the stars in vinyl to create my own custom stickers. This is a great use for scraps of vinyl.
Then I put the stars all over the pumpkin. Actually, I had one of my three-year-olds help me. Preschoolers think you're pretty cool when you can make your own stickers.
And really, that's all you need to make a custom designed, not-so scary pumpkin. The good news is that it only cost a dollar for the pumpkin--I had everything else on hand.
