Friday Fun: Conversations with {Two} Toddlers

12:30:00 PM

Sometimes, it feels like your kiddos just leap into a phase.

Over the last couple of weeks, the twins’ verbal skills have exploded. We are now having random comments that make sense (beyond the “what’s that?” phrase). Even better, they are telling us things unprompted and we are actually having real conversations.

This weekend we celebrated my husband’s birthday (it was actually yesterday), and they have been loving say happy birthday (it sounds like happy daddy) to him. Princess Pea is especially happy to say this.

And then, out of the blue, Princess Pea told me “I love you.” It was in the van on the way to daycare. I don’t care who you are, what kind of a mom you are, there are some moments that just make your heart melt. That is one of them.

Sweet Pea has been a little behind her twin verbally, but a couple of evenings ago she showed me that she was catching up. She This is how our conversation went on the way home from daycare:

SP: Mama! Mama!
Me: Yes, baby?
SP:  Eat! Eat!
Me: I know you’re hungry. We’ll eat when we get home.
SP: Eat apples?
Me: I’m sorry honey, we’re all out of apples. (We were completely out of fruit because produce pick-up was in a couple of days.)
SP: Oh. [Pause] Eat bananas?
Me: No, sweetie. We don’t have any  bananas.
Lil Bit: We’re out of fruit?
SP: Apples all gone. Bananas all gone. All gone!
Me: Yes, you’re right!

That has to be the first time that when she asked for something that she couldn’t have, she immediately asked for something else that was related.

I know that this may not seem like a huge deal, but to me, it is really big.(And I really love hearing I love you from my loved ones!)

  2. As a mother of three kids, I can definitely understand how important the different skill stepping stones hold a major value to you. I didn't get to enjoy seeing the baby stages with my first two, but Zeva I've been able to see all of them. It's quite amazing.

Enjoy every one of them because they go by quick!!
