Cleaning the Pit of Despair (The Closet)

Did you know when you have a bonus room, but it has a closet, it counts as a bedroom to realtors? It doesn't matter how tiny the closet is, or how big the bonus room is, it counts.

Now, we don't use our bonus room as a bedroom. It is a den/playroom. We spend most of our time there. But there's still a closet...you know, so realtors will count it as a bedroom.

Since we've moved in there, it's been a kind of catch all. It was crammed full of stuff we didn't know what to do with when we moved in, and I've crammed even more stuff in there since...gift wrapping supplies, craft supplies, games, random junk...the list goes on).

I even had a nickname for the space...the Pit of Despair. Yup, it's another Princess Bride reference. You know how I love that movie.

Anyway, I decided that enough was enough. I took out all the craft supplies...since they are spread throughout the house, I decided that the office was going to be the central depot for craft supplies.

Then I took out everything else. The closet is rather deep, despite the crazy ceiling. My goal: to be able to walk into this walk-in closet.

I did some research and decided on Ikea's Hyllis galvanized shelves. They were the perfect size to go along each side of the closet, while not conflicting with the ceiling.

We purged a lot of stuff. Some stuff was still wrapped up from when we moved...5 1/2 years ago!!! I gathered all the games (my husband has acquired more Risk type games) and placed it on the shelf.

There are some seasonal (non-Christmas decor) that I knew I wanted to go back in there. All my gift wrapping stuff would go in there, along with some stuff that we didn't want in the attic, but at the same time is in "long-term" storage. Finally, we needed a place to store cables and x-box equipment for when we do our game days.

I love how this turns out. Unfortunately, the closet can no longer be called the Pit of Despair! I'll have to find another way to reference my favorite movie!
