Herb Roasted Turkey

9:20:00 PM

Here's a more traditional recipe for a roast turkey from the spiced rubbed turkey I shared earlier this week. It's really the same method as this recipe. Basically, you just need a different rub:

Ingredients:

4 tsp Italian seasoning
1 tsp seasoning salt (I used Mrs. Dash)
1 tsp garlic seasoning (I use McCormick's Garlic & Onion Seasoning)
3/4 tsp black pepper

In case you need a reminder on how I make my turkey breasts, here are the basics. (For a more detailed tutorial, you can go to my Spicy Turkey Breast Recipe)

Preheat oven to 350.  Place turkey breast into roasting pan with the breast up. Pull the skin of the turkey so it is loosened, both at the base and neck.

Combine the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl.

Rub the spices all over the turkey, including the cavity. Pull the skin up and rub the spices under the skin, too.

Tent aluminum foil loosely over the bird. Roast the turkey for 1 hour. After the hour, take the foil off and pour 1 cup of water over the turkey. Every 20 minute after that, baste the turkey with the juices. Roast until the thermometer reads 170 when inserted into the thickest portion of the bird (but doesn't hit a bone).

Take the turkey out and put some clean foil over it. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes before you carve it to allow the juices to recirculate. This bird will make a great gravy, by the way. If you want gravy, just google turkey gravy and use the drippings. The Italian seasoning gives it some great flavor!

So now you have another easy turkey recipe for Thanksgiving.

Enjoy!
