Reindeer Candle Hurricanes with Washi Tape Plaid

It's been a while since I brought out my silhouette and made something, but lately I've been wanting to make some reindeer inspired candle holders/hurricanes. If you're a regular reader, you know that sometimes I join in with some other bloggers on a Silhouette Challenge. This month's challenge was to make something for under $5. By using dollar store vases, spray paint I already had, and washi tape and vinyl, I made all of these vases for less that $5. Even if you don't have some of the supplies, I know that you can make each one of these for less than $5.
Here's what you need:
Removable vinyl or contact paper (you only need a scrap)
White Spray paint or white all surface craft paint
First, find what silhouettes you want to show on your candle holder. I happened to already have a deer head, and I had some ornaments that had a leaping deer.
I exploded the ornaments until I could delete everything except the deer, then I duplicated the jumping deer and flipped it, so I had a deer head, a jumping deer facing left, and a jumping deer facing right.
I sized them all to fit onto my vases. Then I used my silhouette to cut out the shapes. I applied the vinyl onto my clean vases.
Then I spray painted thin coats of paint onto them.
I allowed them to dry overnight, then I carefully removed the vinyl.

To dress them up and make them festive, I was inspired by my bloggy friend Amy's new book Washi Tape Crafts (affiliate link) and the huge plaid trend to use washi tape to make a kind of window pane plaid. Be sure to use a washi tape that is translucent (most of them are) to get the best plaid effect.
Basically, you need to make a couple of horizontal rows of tape, and then a few vertical, using the washi tape to frame your deer. All done!

I intended these for candle holders, but you could easily use them as vases or even as containers for candy gifts.
