Etched Monogrammed Mason Jar Mug

As an end of school year gift, my sweet niece was given this cute mason jar cup (affiliate link) with her initial on it. What a great gift for the summer time – something personalized that would keep her cool through the summer! I didn't see what it looked like when she got it, because as soon as they washed it her initial came off. She was so disappointed, so my sister asked if I could make a decoration that was more permanent. After some discussion, we decided that etching was about as permanent as it gets, so we decided to create a simple design that still had her initial on it – but with a heart, too! I've included affiliate links throughout to make it easy for you to make the same project!
This project is about as simple as silhouette projects go! Take the initial in your chosen font – I let my niece pick out what she wanted (after I narrowed it down a little bit) and then we found a heart she liked in my Silhouette shape library. We sized both so that they would fill up the front of her mason jar glass. I placed the initial inside the heart and cut it out of vinyl.
I weeded out the heart – the part I wanted etched – and then applied the vinyl to the clean mason jar mug.
Then I used the scraper tool to get all the bubbles possible out. Any bubble is a possibility for the etching cream to leak.

Then, carefully apply the etching cream where you want the glass to be etched - in my case between the heart and the monogram. Allow to sit for the time recommended by the etching cream.
Carefully wipe the etching cream off. Rinse well with water and remove the vinyl stencil.
This monogram won't be coming off any time soon--and my niece is over the moon excited!
