Mild Taco Flavored Chex Mix

5:30:00 AM

I know that this holiday season, our family will be taking some car rides that will require snacks along the way. And I hate premade snacks for the little ones for many reasons, and one is the amount of salt in them. Forget the health concerns...if the snacks are too salty, then they'll drink too much, and then we'll have to stop for more potty breaks, and no one wants to drag a car ride out longer than necessary.

That is why I started experimenting with making my own version of Chex Mix, with flavors that we all love. The only salt is the salt already in the pretzels and cereal; all other flavor comes from unsalted butter and spices.

Here's what you need:

6 cups corn Chex (or similar)
2 cups pretzels
4 tbsp unsalted butter
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin

Mix the cereal and pretzels in a large microwavable bowl. In a separate microwavable container, melt the butter. Mix the spices into the butter. Stir well into the cereal mixture. Microwave mixture for 4 minutes, stirring after two minutes.

And that's it! A quick and easy snack mix that tastes like a mild taco. If you want a little more spice, add some hot sauce in the butter mix. Enjoy!
