Why Create with Kids? #31days #createwithkids

5:30:00 AM

Why do I create with my kids? It isn't usually something conscious. Remember, I am often making things, and most children will want to mimic those around them--it's how they learn. But why would I want to purposefully create something with my kids?

It involves them and you, to a common cause. If you feel as if you are not connecting to your child, try making something with them. I don't care what your skill level is--as long as everyone is patient and you're operating within your child's skill level, you should be fine. Parent and child each have their own world that sometimes seems so separate--learning to live in each other's world is important! You may find a shared passion to enjoy together.

It helps them learn and process. A toddler learns how to hold a crayon by practicing. An older child learns about proportion, perspective, and color by drawing a picture. Lego creation teaches about structural stability. A story made up about some dolls teaches the child coping mechanisms for a situation that they are living. The lists go on and on.

It's fun! Don't make it more than it needs to be. Can you sit and color? Can you play dress up and make up stories? Enjoy the moments with your child!
