DIY Mickey Mouse T-Shirt

When you go to Disney World, you want to look the part. At least, My kids and I do!

I have found that it is pretty easy to find Disney attire for my girls. In fact, right now, the Disney attire is overflowing, between gifts my girls had already received, hand-me-downs from cousins, and consignment sale purchases.

But if you’re looking for adult attire, the selection is definitely limited. I wanted a simple shirt for myself that I wouldn’t mind wearing after I left the parks. This is what I came up with:

I happened to find a clearance t-shirt at A.C. Moore about a month ago. It was my size, and the only thing that was wrong with it was that someone had spilled glitter all over it. I bought it for $.75. One time in the wash, and it was glitter-free! So I then turned to one of my new favorite tools, my Silhouette Portrait. I found a Mickey Mouse silhouette online and used my Designer software to trace the shape. I decided to make it a simple I heart mickey silhouette, since this was my first time stenciling a shirt.

(Note: be sure to put something between the front and back of your shirt to make sure the paint doesn't bleed through!)

I also found some fabric spray paint on clearance, so after a little bit of experimentation, I decided that this paint would work perfectly for my vision of this shirt. I wanted a kind of worn look—almost like a vintage tee. So, after I masked everything else, I started spraying!

I made sure to make the coverage a little uneven as I sprayed the paint on. I followed the instructions for drying time, and when I took the contact paper off, I was excited to see the look was exactly what I was looking for!

You could easily make a t-shirt like this with regular fabric paint with this stencil.

I tried to take a picture in the mirror, but then I realized that the image looked all weird with the mirroring effect. Photography fail.

I also tried it on my usual model, but this little monkey was being pretty silly. This was the best I got.

I can’t wait to go visit the Mouse wearing this shirt! Enjoy!
