Metallic Lustre Air Dry Clay Ornaments

6:00:00 AM

I love making things with my kids, and there's something special about making Christmas ornaments with them. If you have some air dry clay, some buttons, and some metallic paint that kids can apply with their fingers, you can make some memories and some pretty spectacular Christmas ornaments. This is perfect to trim your own tree or to give away as a gift.

Here's what you need (may contain affiliate links):
Silicone Mat
Fun buttons with lots of texture

A small skewer or wooden dowel
Metallic paint – I used Metallic Lustre Paint

Ribbon for hanging on your tree

Roll out a portion of air dry clay on your silicone mat with a rolling pin (remember to use tools that you don't use with food!) until about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Press buttons all over the clay in a pleasing pattern.

Cut out the pattern with the cookie cutters. Use a dowel or skewer to poke a hole in the ornament for hanging. Allow to dry according to package directions.

Pick out the paint color that will be your base coat, and apply with your fingers and get down into the crevices and then wipe away the excess.

The lightly apply the accent color, only touching the highlights of the piece. Allow paint to dry and then buff to a shine.

Thread a ribbon through the hole and hang on your tree.

Enjoy!
