Lovely Curvaceous Blue Lamp

5:00:00 AM

Once upon a time,  there was a beautiful, amazingly curvaceous...lamp. It was languishing in a yard sale, just waiting to be snapped up by someone who loved it. Yes, it was dark 70's brown. Yes, it had brass, but it was all dirty and tarnished. But it was funky and cool and just waiting for a second chance.

I mean, just look at this texture!

And then it came home with me...and I spray painted it blue.

Except the blue looked more like purple.

Don't you hate it when you've been sucked in by a lie? Especially a lie on a spray paint lid.

And I didn't take a picture because I was so upset. I like purple, but not perwinkle blue-purple. I felt like I had brought the lamp straight from the 70's and dumped it in a different era, but it wasn't today. So the lamp was abandoned again...for a few days while I brainstormed a solution.

I took some Americana Decor Chalky Finish clear wax and mixed it with some green craft paint in a 2:1 ratio and brushed it on, and then wiped it off to neutralize the purple. Once the green made me feel a little better, I used liquid gilding to paint the tarnished 70's brass silver, and to create an accent band on some of the wood.

Then I coated everything with a coat of brown Americana Decor Chalky Finish wax and wiped it off to give it an antiqued look. I love how the brown wax adds dimension to the silver gilding!

I love how it turned out, especially since it was almost a craft fail.
