Special Shaped Foccacia Bread

Sometimes, all it takes to make a meal special is a cookie
cutter.
Seriously.
I’ve been thinking on how to make meals a little more
exciting, especially as Easter approaches. Of course, I didn’t want to make
more work for myself, and I definitely didn’t want to spend much money.
Then it hit me. Why couldn’t I shape my homemade bread into
fun Easter shapes?
When I make homemade bread, I usea my bread machine to make
foccaccia, like in this recipe. In fact, I used this very recipe, just without the tomatoes. Once the dough is made, I flatten it out and
bake it like a naked pizza.
I found these cookie cutters in the Target Dollar Spot. All it took to make this meal special was 5 more minutes of my time to use the cutters to make some pretty shaped bread.
That time was made up in the baking time, since each individual shape was much smaller than the usual 2 pound circle. Basically, you bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. For this variation, I added some Italian seasoning, since we were eating it with pasta.

You should have seen all three of my girls! They were so
excited to be able to choose between flowers and bunnies for their bread.
It is amazing how the little touches make things special,
especially when you have kiddos. I think I’ll use this trick the next time we
have a birthday meal!

ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and fun idea! I know my girls would love if I would do this. I haven't made foccacia in a long time...it is so yummy!

Cute! Isn't it funny how kids will eat something when it is shaped? My daughter will only eat her sandwiches if they look like a Mickey head ;). Thanks for sharing at Pinworthy Projects.
ReplyDeleteSaw this at Beyond the Picket Fence! Clever idea and fun too!
